History Established in 2012 John Hallenberger and Chris Bergevin met in 2005. As they worked on various mechanic projects over the years, they they saw a need for an affordable mechanic. Countless times friends of theirs would need a repair on their car and go to a mechanic in the Treasure Valley for a quote. Most often the price was extremely high, usually to cover parts markup and high overhead and labor costs. These friends would turn to John and Chris, frustrated at the unaffordable cost to get back on the road. The Shop was born out of a need to offer affordable and reliable mechanic work by someone customers can trust. The restoration projects are an additional portion of The Shop’s mission to save classic cars that are a disappearing breed. Meet the Business Owner:
Chris B. and John H. John has been around motorcycles and cars since he was a small kid riding his dad’s dirt bikes in the Foothills of Boise. He joined the Army in high school and trained in wheel mechanics. He worked for the Army as a mechanic and driver and outfitted MRAPs for the tour of duty in Iraq he served in 2010-2011. He is working on his bachelor’s degree in business management at Boise State University. John heads up the day-to-day operations and repairs. Chris has a passion for automobiles and aviation that started at an early age during trips to Southern California’s car shows and Osh Kosh, Wisconsin’s AirVenture. When he’s not looking in the skies at passing aircraft, he’s got his eyes peeled for classic cars waiting to be saved. In the near future he hopes to get his pilot’s license. Chris is the artistic force behind The Shop, heading up the restoration projects and assisting John with managing The Shop’s mechanics and daily operations.
